Sister Maureen Geary, O.P., recently inaugurated as president of Aquinas College, never planned on stepping into the role, but with decades of service in law, education and leadership, she says her focus now is on listening, learning and building connections with the students. “I’ve had all sorts of duties on the board,” Geary said. “But the most meaningful work was always with the students and faculty.”
Her journey has also included a recent sabbatical in Ireland, where she participated in a 10-week program called ‘Threshold.'
Sister Maureen has served in Leadership of the Dominican Sisters ~ Grand Rapids, including terms as Vicaress, Prioress and Councilor. She received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Aquinas College in 2018, and has previously served in many capacities at Aquinas College. In addition to her service in Leadership with the Dominican Sisters, Sister Maureen has served as Director of Social Justice Programming for the Diocese of Grand Rapids, Coordinator of the Grand Rapids Area Housing Continuum of Care, and has practiced in Grand Rapids as both an attorney and C.P.A.
In her service as President, Sister Maureen is committed to the mission and vision of Aquinas College and seeks to serve the Aquinas College Community as it forms servant leaders for our society.

The Sr. Annette Byrne Division of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians is thrilled to announce our inaugural “Maiden of Ireland”. Her name is Adelyn McNamara. She’s a Senior at Rockford High School. She enjoys journaling and spending time with family and friends. This exciting scholarship competition is designed to celebrate and support young women of West Michigan as they embrace their Irish heritage, develop leadership skills, and give back through community involvement. Participants will have the opportunity to grow as confident leaders while serving as ambassadors who inspire and empower Irish-American women.

Finding a sense of community and purpose in your hometown can be an uplifting experience. For many Irish-Americans, they find this through their local Ancient Order of Hibernians, otherwise known as the AOH.
The AOH sponsors many programs associated with promoting Irish Heritage and serving our commmunities, such as the St. Patrick's Day Parade, Irish Way Program, Hibernian Hunger Project and National HIstory Day sponsorship.
